Learning the arts at school: architecture, sculpture, painting, music and dancing

Although many people can’t believe that arts can be taught, they are wrong. It is true that individuals that are capable to express wonderful masterpieces in paint, drawings, body expression, etc, are gifted ones. But it doesn’t mean that arts was activity that can be performed only by them. If we have to defined arts we could say that is the ability that humans beings have to show what they feel, what they think by using different types of way: materials, images, sounds, body among others. As we said before, is true that many people are more skillful than others when we talk about arts, but there are school arts that are in charge of taking the best of each individual, helping them to express their thoughts through arts by using their body, images, drawing, photographs, sculpture, etc.

A school art is the place were we are taught how to use our senses that are related to arts in our best way, as it is a school, we have to affirm that is a place to learn, but in a school art we don’t learn exacts, we learn art. With this we mean that we learn how to use paints, methods like engravings, how to make sculptures, how to develop sounds and music, etc.
There are millions of school arts around the world, but the most popular are the school of Fine Arts, is the most classy and important school that deals with the fact of art. This school art was born in Greece, country in where the arts were divided into superior or minor arts, the firsts ones were the ones that allow us to enjoy the work through superior senses: view and hearing. The Fine Arts school affirms that these senses are called superior since human being don’t have to be in touch with the object to enjoy it.

Elementary school arts teaches, among others, sciences like architecture, sculpture, painting, music and dancing; it is a very good way to start shapping the spirit with the sense of beauty. There are also other branches to choose, such us poetry, theater and music. These types of elementary schools are in charge or have the aim of teaching us how to write a poem, or do a drawing always following certain patterns that are the essence of the arts. There is a controversial issue that the school arts treat today, we mean cinema, by many philosophers, cinema is considered the 7th art, but some others think that this activity doesn’t gather what it takes to be considered art, this issue will remain controversial until an official organism accepts its credibility in the school art.

As we mentioned before there are minor arts, and these schools are in charge of teaching them as well, we understand by minor arts as the masterpieces that can be enjoyed by the use of the minor senses such us touch, taste and smell. They are called minor arts since we must have physical contact with these works to really enjoy their gift. Although many people don’t consider them as schools arts, the places in where we learn how to cook, are part of them. The schools arts also teach us how to compose lyrics, sounds by using specific methods, but what we understand by the word music: there are many definitions when we reach this word, one says “the art that combines the sounds, according to the principles of melodies, with rhythm and harmony”, other definition says that music is just an organized movement of sounds through a time space.

These schools also teach us “dancing”, they defined this art as body rhythmic movements that are accompanied by music, and they are used as vehicles to start the communication and expression. Then we have poetry, the type of written arts, here is were we express our feeling by using a pen and a piece of paper, following grammatical rules that help us to write properly. We also have “painting”, the schools arts define this word as the ability to put over a surface different nature models, most of the time by the use of pigments. Panting is also the art of project a drawing by lines, points and colours, or to fix an image or a moment over a surface or an object. We also have the art of sculpture and architecture, the first one is the art of creating shapes in space, is the art of engraving, sculpt or modeling; meanwhile the second is the art or science of projecting and constructing buildings that persist for a long time. Those are the basic concepts, among others, that we can learn in school arts; some schools also teach the art of cinema, but for some people this activity is still in doubt, but anyway we have to keep an open mind because in a near future we’ll be able to learn this 7th art.
