Elvis Aaron Presley was born along with his twin brother Jesse in January 8th in a small town of Mississipi called Tapuelo (his brother didn’t survive the delivery). His mother, Gladys Smith Presley worked as a nurse in the hospital of this small town and his father, Vernon, used to work in a paint company. At the age of 11, Elvis received his first guitar as a birthday present from his parents. In 1948 the family moves to Memphis, Tenesee due to economic issues, later, Elvis would live with his granfather till his father was release of prison, he was condemned for three years. The family spent part of their lives in public and humble houses in the slums, it was there where Elvis discovered his passion for black music. Performing the song Old Shep and Cowboy Dress with his guitar, wins a contest organized by a store who sold milk for kids.
Elvis Presley's life: early years of his career
Far away from books and school, Elvis Presley wins a singing contest and expresses, in early times, his talent for black music and blues. Presley finished his secondary studies in Humes School and started working in a cinema, later lawn cutting, and finally in an electricity company as a tractor driver. In 1953, at the age of 18, go to a local company called Memphis Recording Service of Sun Records, this company was in charge of recording and producing black music, and records a single named Hapyness.to give his mother a birthday present. Sam Phillips, the owner of the recording studio realized about Elvis Presley gift for the music after hearing the demo and tried to find the young boy with negative results since they hadn’t taken down his phone or address. A year later, in 1954, Elvis Presley came back to the studio, to record two songs and Phillips wouldn’t miss the chance again and that’s why he became in Elvis guide and mentor leading him to fame. The local people of Memphis were the first witnesses of Elvis career, his first group had the name of “Elvis and the boys”; during that year, in July 30th, Elvis gave his first concert in Overton Park Shell and there, for the first time, scandalize the people with his movements.

In 1955, Elvis admitted to be represented by “the colonel” Tom Parker, who got him his first contract with the RCA, he would receive the extraordinary amount of 35 million dollars. Working for this company Elvis records “Blue suede shoes” and seven more songs selected by the company; on the following year, Elvis Presley’s music is everywhere. We could listen to classics like “Jailhous rock”, “Hound Dog”, etc; In 1956, “Heartbreack Hotel” was born and became in his first number one song that would help him to reach international fame. Elvis Presley conquers Hollywood Famous all over the country, and with the plus of a good looking appearance, that same year Elvis films “Love me tender” for the American cinema. Elvis gave birth to a scenic music style impossible to imitate; In March 23 of 1956 releases his first album “Elvis Presley”, this album was the first pop music album in selling more than a million copies. After a few months makes his first performance in Las Vegas with a modest success. The television opened his doors to him giving him the chance to appear in the Berle and Allen shows; Ed Sullivan, the owner of the most popular show by that time received him in his tv program.

The last years Elvis Presley got thousands of golden records, more than any other singer (20 of his albums sold more than 2 million copies) y placed himself in the first position of the charts in 18 times; he has sold till today 1000 million records, won three Grammys although he was nominated fourteen times. He was found dead on the floor of his toilet in Memphis, in August 16th of 1977, at 14.20 hours; the diagnosis said that there has been a malfunction in his heart. Many people affirm that the cause of the dead was due to natural causes, meanwhile, there were some doctors that were sure that the cause was related to a pills overdose; his father asked for a post mortem but the world never got to know the results. |
