Whenever we plan our holidays we always try to find a place where we can relax and have fun at the same time, that’s why some people choose beaches, some others mountains or woods; but there are thousand of us who love to go deep inside the sea trying to discover what it keeps from us. In order to perform this wonderful activity called scuba diving, we need to have the proper scuba equipment. First of all before start speaking about the properly scuba equipment we must define what scuba dive is; this submarine activity gives us the opportunity to see how life below water is, but when we say water we don’t only mean oceans, but also lakes. To perform scuba we need some underwater breathing devices; the whole fans of this activity need to use a scuba equipment since is the only way they have to remain below the water surface for long periods of time. This “sport” (as many people call it) is done by many of us as a way of recreation, some others to please their curiosity and see what lives in oceans.

Scuba equipments can be used to perform two types of scuba diving: the recreational diving and the exploring diving; the first one has a different aim, here the experience that people desire to live is just to go inside the water and discover many species of fish and marine creatures. They take pictures and relax by swimming and admiring the whole view. The one who perform scuba exploring can also take with them the same scuba equipment but they will need a few more accessories. Their purpose is to investigate new races or the conditions of the sea, that’s why they’ll need lamps, cameras, etc. But having scuba equipment doesn’t mean we can become a scuba diver; to be one of them is recommended to take a beginner’s diving class, since we need to learn many skills which are required to do this activity. This knowledge concerns: the type of scuba equipment we need to use and how to use it, defence techniques and ocean training, etc. These classes are offered all around the world since it is a very popular sport and way of recreation.

As we said before, to carry out this activity you need to wear a special scuba equipment, but not all of them are similar; the ocean have many areas we don’t know, some of them are cold and some others are warmer, that’s why is necessary to get information about the place we are supposed to dive in and get the appropriate scuba equipment. The primary scuba equipment, the traditional, consists of: gauges, mask, tank, finds and a watch; depending on the temperature of the place we’re diving in we’ll need a dry or wet suit, gloves and a hood. Each part of this equipment is necessary; we can’t dive in without any of these parts, since they are essential for us if we want to be protected; one of the main parts of our scuba equipment is the tank, is the one that will provide us oxygen or air; it will supply us air while we are below the water. Depth and pressure gauges give us specific information that indicates where we are and how is our air condition; the watch and compass (in case we take one) will also assist us while we are under water.

As we said before there are two types of scuba diving, the ones who perform this activity as a recreational one, want to see the ocean beauty, they examine sharks, whales, all kind of fish, dolphins, sea turtles, etc. They will also expect to see several beautiful ocean plants during their travel. The beginners are given scuba equipment to practise the basics in shallow waters or in pools, when they are prepared the diver will be introduced into the sea by a teacher or a trainer who will guide them. Commercial divers use their skills in order to study specific things from the sea and sell their knowledge to different corporations; they prepare several projects that will be introduced to those corporations later such us ocean oil, bridge construction, etc. Of course, to study the ocean, these divers need special scuba equipments since an oxygen tank is not enough, these people need to take samples, go inside darker caves, etc.

Some scientists also perform scuba activities, but not with a profitable aim; their goal is to study several components of marine biology, find new species, and get more information about the behaviour or existent species. As we can see, scuba is an activity that involves many aims for different people, but it also could be a very exiting sport for some, or a relaxing activity for others, the important thing here is to be prepared properly when the time to go into the ocean comes.
